How To Read a Basic Floor Plan

What is a floor plan?

The fundamental depiction of your custom home rendered in virtual terms and inscribed on paper is knowns as a floor plan. It acts like a map for you to estimate the physical features of a building, including walls, doors, staircases, and other infrastructure. Let’s delve into the markings and projections that will help you understand a basic floor plan.

Walls

The walls drawn in parallel; the exterior wall is thicker than the interior. Walls are easy to identify as singular lines drawn without any unnecessary intersections. The primary thickness for an external wall measures at 250 mm, and for an internal wall, it is 90mm. You can change it according to your needs if felt necessary.

Doors & Windows

An arc deawn with a waving gesture towards whichever way is the opening direction are doors. You can check the swing direction on the floor plan. There are different types of doors that you can find in various floor plans. Three parallel lines denoted with one thick line in between are the windows.

Stairs

Rectangular boxes mark staircases with an arrow indicating their intended direction. You can easily trace them, typically locating them around the living room area.

Alfresco

Alfresco are the outdoor areas for barbeque or to have an outdoor experience. The outdoor space highlighted in a graphical scale is the alfresco area. For a better understanding, refer to the floor plan above.

Kitchen

The kitchen area is easily visible as it is marked and appropriately named. You can arrange the specific items according to the plan. Place all the essentials, like a fridge, oven, dishwasher, and cabinets, to suit your needs.

To summarize, these are the little details that missout from the naked eye or someone who is new to reading it.
